Accent Wellness serves the Greater Rochester, NY area. We recognize the real limitations of transportation that prevent people from getting the services they really need. AW responded by not having an office and making the commitment to travel so that services are more easily accessible.
Luke and Melinda formed Accent Wellness in 2021. First they were partners in life and then became partners in business. COVID brought about significant changes for everyone. It became the catalyst for Luke and Melinda to start something that they had been dreaming about for a long time.
Our journey
Luke has always been drawn to working with people. [He worked in customer service helping people with technology needs]. He spent many years directly supporting and advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In his own personal growth and wellness journey, he pursued Kriya Yoga and Qi Gong to create balance and peace in his life. When he experienced his own chronic illness as an adult, he had a deep and personal connection to the importance of wellness and finding the things that make any small and lasting changes in quality of life. In 2016 he went back to school for massage therapy and worked part time for a few years after he graduated. The formation of Accent Wellness made it possible for him to step full time into providing massage therapy and wellness classes.
Similarly, Melinda has always been drawn to working with people. Her own personal experience of music’s impact on self-expression and mood, its ability to strengthen relationships, along with her personality as an empathetic, compassionate and intuitive person led her to the field of music therapy. When she discovered the career path of combining her passion of music and helping others at Nazareth University, she knew without a doubt that it was who she was meant to be. Melinda has been working in the field for almost 2 decades and, during that time, has been helping people improve their quality of life through the purposeful use of music. After working with people for many years and hearing what mattered most, Melinda wanted to work for herself in order to be able to respond more freely and fully to the needs around her.
